Phytotherapy

The description of Phytotherapy according to the Dutch Society for Phytotherapy:

"The knowledge of phytotherapy or medicinal plants is very old. The ancient Egyptians as well as the Indians and the Chinese were already using it. They wrote down this traditional knowledge and passed it on to later generations so that it was not lost. That is why today we still have the medicinal plants from the East (China and India) and the West (Europe and America)

The modern definition of phytotherapy is treating, reducing or preventing disorders in humans and animals with medicinal plants, parts of plants (leaves, flowers, seeds, roots) and their preparations.

Quite a mouthful. However, it cannot be otherwise because of the important criteria. They are:

  1. the quality of the plant and its preparation
  2. the efficacy of the plant and preparations
  3. the safety of the plant and preparations

What can phytotherapy do for humans and animals at this time? A lot, because the focus is on chronic diseases. That is precisely one of the problems that we have to find a solution to in Public Health today."
